Lisa (Alina) had been dumped at a California shelter by her previous humans. She had been at the shelter for 2 weeks, running out of time and getting sick. Bella’s Fund made a donation to help with her pull fee and vetting. She was pulled and transported to the vet before she got on the E-list! She stayed at the vet another 2 weeks with no foster or adoption offer, so Bella’s Fund offered to take her in as a foster if no one local stepped up. No one did, so we had her transported to us here in Arizona. We renamed her Molly Zee shortly after her arrival at our home in Arizona… Molly Zee just seemed like a better fit for the bright-eyed, bouncy little girl who quickly stole our hearts.

I am happy to report that Molly was a foster failure! She got along great with Weezer and Toby the Cat so we decided she should join our family. She has been spayed and is enjoying life here, spending her days playing with Weez and sometimes Toby. She likes hanging out with Mom, Dad too on the weekends, and occasional car rides to the post office to do our Bella’s Fund shipping. Her nights are spent sleeping in the big bed with us humans and Weezer.

The potential adopter must live in Texas. The adoption process includes a home visit, vet references and all current animals must be up to date on all vaccines. Simone was tagged for pull from the shelter by Lea Ann White of Texas Creature Comfort. Trainer Tom physically picked her up from the shelter and took her to his home to foster and train her.  If it were not for them, our poor little Simone would have been PTS that day.

Simone and I

“You must wait outside in your vehicle! This dog is too dangerous, too volatile to be handed over within our premises!” This was spoken by an agitated young lady who was the apparent supervisor at South Louisiana Animal Control. The atmosphere was electric with tension. Little wonder the animals might be operating, likewise, under the influence of heavy stress.

I retired to my small pickup and awaited events. Although experienced with training and rehabilitation of dogs tagged as “aggressive biters”, I must say that I found this elevated level of concern for my personal safety to be just a bit off-putting. I sat and concentrated on presenting a calm exterior for the benefit of the dog Simone. I was about to meet SIMONE within this seriously melodramatic scenario. Then I stared at the single piece of paper I had been given. Under “disposition”, the only box checked was labeled “euthanasia!!” I read no further!!

Not very soon, but still too soon for my complete transformation from nervousness to composure, a uniformed man exited the side door and hurried into my passenger door. Without preamble, a 15 lb. Simone was deposited on my front seat and we were left immediately to ourselves. I had met my destiny!

The bundle of wiry, black shag rug with a prominent under bite and curious single white top knot took only a moment to shake what may well have been an entire lifetime of constant fight or flight tension, fear and disorientation resulting from the scatter-brained whimsies and arbitrary caprice of the two legged jugglers of her fate, fortune and future. And with sudden and perfect equilibrium, she sized up the situation before her and scurried over to fill the narrow void between my pant/shirt front and the steering wheel. In this poignant, almost anticlimactic instant, Simone had arrived. She was now comfortably ensconced and fully ready to “go bye bye!”

That was two months ago, as I write these lines, and Simone has been tolerating me with admirable patience from that day even unto this one. I feel that her readjustment is now reasonably complete. I am currently seeking a permanent placement for her. She is active, playful , affectionate, a great bed bug, fine with other pets and just loves, loves, loves a good road trip. Please do give me a ring if you are interested in Simone as your forever companion.

In about a week Max started having green goop collect in his eyes even with the antibiotics.  I had kept Karen in the loop on his status at the same time I was trying to find another place to get his dental done.  Finally I found a place that was more affordable and told Karen what they had said.  Karen had Bella’s Fund  pay for the dental which I knew would save Max’s life.  Max had his dental done on the 14th of December and all but four of his teeth were pulled.  He also went through two more rounds of antibiotics to help him heal up.

Today he is a very happy toothless wonder.  He eats every thing he gets his mouth on, including Milk Bone Dog Bones!  A few days after the dental he also got up to date on his shots.  Max is mostly blind, but runs all over the yard and even tries to keep up with the rest of the kids.  If it had not been for Bella’s Fund, Max would probably not be with us today. As we figure Max is at least 12 years old, helping him live out his golden years is now my goal.  I will be forever grateful for the help and support that I received from Bella’s Fund.

This was devastating to have her taken from us so soon in such a senseless tragedy. We loved her so much! A lot of people donated to help with Bella’s expenses, hoping and praying we would be able to save her life, which we were very grateful for. Unfortunately, that was not to be…

So, we have decided to use those donations to start a fund. Our main focus will be on Senior Doxies. Its purpose will be to help other Doxies on their last day at the shelter, like Bella was (she was on the 5am E-List) with funds needed for a Rescue to pull them from the shelter. In Memory of Bella and in Honor of all our friends who were praying for and donated for her we are creating… Bella’s Fund~
